Emporia City Commissioners will be meeting under a new format Wednesday morning.
Commissioners will convene first for an action session during which time a formal NLC agreement with HomeServe could be approved for a new water and sewer line insurance program for residents. Conversations on the topic have been ongoing for a little less than a month and the program would be a separate entity from the city.
Project easement acquisitions for a paving improvement project at Road 180, the appointment of a member to the Housing Board and Emporia Land Bank and a resolution for a transportation alternatives program will also see consideration. Following the action meeting, commissioners will move directly into a study session where commissioners will continue strategic planning discussions and review potential personnel policy changes.
Wednesday’s meeting will be part of a trial run for a new meeting format. The city will now meet only twice a month rather than weekly as it has for the past several years.
City Manager Trey Cocking says the new format came about during recent strategic planning talks. Cocking says the new schedule, amongst other benefits, will reduce the additional time commitment placed on city staff that comes with preparing for weekly meetings.
The meetings will begin at 11 am inside the Municipal Courtroom at White Auditorium.
