Heavy truck traffic that typically uses Kansas Highway 99 to go through Greenwood County now has a lengthy detour around a work zone in the central part of the county.
Last week, KVOE News told you about sewer line work in Hamilton. The work zone involves K-99 between Main and Garfield in the city limits. This process is officially underway and could last through May 18.
Local passenger vehicles and emergency vehicles can use Hamilton’s city streets to get around the work zone, but large trucks will have to detour to US Highway 75 by using Kansas Highway 58 near Madison or US Highway 54 near Eureka. The official detour, which includes Yates Center, increases the trip for heavy trucks by over 60 miles.
