A Colorado man is in custody following a morning chase that began in Lyon County and concluded with a crash in Chase County Monday morning.
According to Emporia Police Captain Lisa Hayes, officers received an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers about a wanted person who was staying in an Emporia hotel. The tip stated the individual, later identified as 31-year-old Cody W. Bauer of Fort Collins, CO, was in possession of a stolen vehicle and stolen property following crimes committed in another jurisdiction.
Officers later located the vehicle with Bauer allegedly in the driver’s seat. As officers tried to make contact Bauer allegedly took off from the scene and a pursuit ensued involving EPD, Lyon County Deputies, Kansas Highway Patrol Troopers and Chase County Deputies.
The pursuit eventually entered Chase County where Bauer’s vehicle left the roadway, drove through a field, including a swampy area, and then overturned in a creek bed. Bauer was arrested and taken to Newman Regional Health for treatment of reported minor injuries and later transported to the Lyon County Detention Center.
Bauer has a nationwide extraditable warrant through Colorado for failure to comply with bond. He may also face multiple charges in Lyon County on suspicion of possession of cocaine, possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of stolen property, felony flee and elude and for being a fugitive from justice in relation to the Colorado warrant.
The vehicle Bauer was allegedly driving was reported stolen in Devner, CO, several weeks ago. Formal charges are pending.

A vehicle pursuit in Lyon County led to a reported injury crash in Chase County on Monday.
Emporia Police Officer Kelly Davis says Emporia Police, Lyon County deputies and Kansas Highway Patrol troopers went from Emporia to the 2400 block of Road X in Chase County, with the crash being reported shortly before 9:30 am. The currently-unnamed driver apparently crashed after driving through a field, including a swampy area, and then overturning in a creek bed.
The driver was taken to Newman Regional Health with suspected minor injuries. Further details will be announced by Emporia Police.
9:30 am Monday: Wreck reported in Chase County
Several agencies have been called to respond to a crash with reported injuries west of Emporia.
Emporia Fire, Chase County EMS and local law enforcement were initially called to the intersection of Roads 180 and A, or the Lyon-Chase county line some seven miles west of Emporia, shortly before 9:30 am after a reported rollover crash. The crash location has since been adjusted to the 2400 block of X Road in Chase County.
Law enforcement has not confirmed whether the incident is connected to a potential vehicle chase reported after 9 am and a potential foot pursuit after the wreck.
