Lyon County Public Health officials have said this before: COVID-19 caseloads are increasing. And they have to say it again.
The 50 weekly cases announced Wednesday follow a period where Lyon County was averaging five cases a week for nearly two months, and it represents a variant of the omicron version that caused record numbers of the virus early this year. Millbern says the increase was noticeable starting the week of April 24, but it’s still worlds apart from the record spike noted in early January.
Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern says the numbers as announced the past two or three weeks are probably low.
The vast majority of reported cases have been mild. Millbern says they are also — still — largely affecting unvaccinated residents, so it’s important to get vaccinated and boosted.
About 12 percent of cases involve people who have received the standard vaccinations but have not received any booster doses. Around two percent of cases are in fully-vaccinated and boosted residents.
