Lyon County Commissioners have given directions for the Road and Bridge Department to move forward with a road improvement project, however, not at the same level originally expected.
Lyon County Engineer Chip Woods discussed a proposed milling, pavement and surfacing project on Americus Road from US Highway 50 to Road 180 during the commission’s weekly action meeting Thursday. Woods reports the road has not seen this level of work in nine years, however, he says it may not be needed as the roadway is in relatively good condition.
This option would adequately protect the roadway for the next several years it would also reduce the estimated cost of roadwork from roughly $300,000 to a fourth of that price.
Word on when the project will begin is currently pending. Separately, Woods also requested approval for an entrance application for Daniel Roemer near 2801 E. Sixth Ave. and a quote from Central Sand to crush the county’s concrete stockpile at a cost of $80,000.
The aggregate from the stockpile will be used for fill material. Commissioners approved both requests unanimously.
In other business, commissioners overheard and approved the renewal of the county’s anti drug and alcohol policy and employee assistance program policies presented by Human Resources Director Janice Huffman. Three executive sessions, two for non-elected personnel and one for legal matters were also held with no action taken.
The Lyon County Commission will reconvene for its weekly action session next Thursday at 9 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
