Weather conditions have largely been favorable for area livestock, aside from our current round of blistering heat.
Lyon County Extension ag agent Brian Rees says ranchers have either gotten their cattle to pasture or will likely do so soon.
Recent rainfall has helped. Rees says the roughly 2-4 inches of rain from last week helped to fill stock ponds and also got area grasses off to a good start, whether they are cool-season or warm-season varieties.
Speaking of the burn season, Rees says most of the spring activity is largely done. He would like to see some burns in the August-September timetable because that could provide more brush control as a benefit to cattle.
