Lyon County Public Health has more new coronavirus cases in its latest data set.
On Friday, Public Health announced 37 new cases after 50 cases were reported between May 4 and this past Wednesday. Public Health says an omicron variant is likely to blame for the increased cases, both locally and across the country.
Deaths remained flat at 123. The overall pandemic total is at 10,279 cases.
Areawide, Osage County has the highest number of total cases at 3,946. Chase County has the lowest at 673. Aside from Coffey County’s 2,435 total cases, all other area counties — Greenwood, Morris and Wabaunsee — are between 1,500 and 1,850 cases.
With a lot of residents now using home tests, Lyon County Public Health Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern encourages residents to do what they can to make sure they get the best results — and to follow up if they have positive results.
Millbern has said the recent numbers probably don’t represent the true number of cases, in part because people aren’t getting tested if they develop symptoms or they aren’t reporting the results of home tests if they feel sick. Millbern says people need to at least talk with their doctors if they develop symptoms or have a positive test.
