Thunderstorms could bring hail and gusty winds to the KVOE listening area Sunday morning.
The current forecast calls for a decent chance of storms through the morning and wrapping up by early afternoon. Stronger activity, including quarter-sized hail, wind gusts up to 60 mph and heavy rainfall, could start affecting areas like Morris and Wabaunsee counties shortly after sunrise before moving south across the rest of the area through 1 pm.
Once storms vacate, the rest of the afternoon should be partly sunny with high temperatures approaching 80 degrees.
More showers and storms are possible late Monday night through Tuesday night. Any severe thunderstorms that develop should stay well north of the area.
8 am Saturday: Sunday morning storms bring low-end severe weather risk
Showers and storms could return to the KVOE listening area by early Sunday.
Storm chances are in the picture all day, but TV-3 meteorologist Thomas Schmidt says the best chance of storm activity is before noon.
There is a low-end risk of severe weather as well. Most of the area, including Lyon County, is in a marginal risk. A slight risk is currently in effect for areas south of a Matfield Green to Waverly line. Hail and wind are the main concerns if storms become severe, although a brief isolated tornado can’t be totally ruled out.
