An Emporia man seeking to have his sentence reversed on child misconduct charges had that appeal officially denied in Lyon County District Court.
Joe Louis Stewart was seeking to reverse convictions for aggravated indecent liberties, aggravated sodomy and aggravated burglary from 2016. He had appealed unsuccessfully to the Kansas Court of Appeals and Kansas Supreme Court earlier, saying district court was wrong to both allow evidence of prior sexual misconduct in a separate alleged incident and instruct the jury about the evidence.
Stewart, 61, was initially sentenced to 25 years in prison. His earliest possible release date is in October 2042.
