Newman Regional Health is gearing up for a new era in surgical medicine.
Robotic surgery officially begins June 8. After the hospital Board of Trustees’ monthly meeting Wednesday, CEO Bob Wright said general surgery, urology and obstetrics/gynecology will all use the new equipment.
The hospital approved new da Vinci robotic equipment late last year. The cost is around $2.7 million.
Speaking of financial matters, the hospital will also republish its 2022 operating and cash flow budget because of provider relief funds due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Wright says the hospital anticipated those being part of the 2022 budget but now has been told they need to be part of the 2021 budget.
Separately, Wright says the hospital is almost ready to tear down the former physical therapy building at 1024 West 12th, just northeast of the main hospital campus. Wright says demolition starts in early June and the building could be fully demolished by mid-June. Newman Therapy Services moved into the original emergency department space last fall.
