The Cottonwood River gauge at Soden’s Grove is continuing to experience minor flooding due to heavy rainfall over the past week.
*A flood warning is underway until Sunday evening. The river was last observed at 21.37 feet early Saturday morning after reaching 21.39 ft well above the flood stage of 20 feet. The river should drop below flood stage in the overnight hours Sunday and recede back into its banks by Sunday night.
A handful of Lyon County roads remain closed south and west of Emporia:
*Road 150 at D; at E
*Road 155 east of F-5
*Road 160 between Road G and J
*Road G from 160 to 170
*Road H south of South Ave
*Road H north of 160
These roads will likely remain closed through the Memorial Day weekend even if they dry out.
The current forecast calls for several rain chances next week from Monday night through Thursday, including a chance of severe weather Monday night. Hail and win are the main concerns.

9:40 pm Friday: WEATHER: Flood warning canceled for Neosho River at Neosho Rapids; closed Lyon County roads set to remain barricaded through holiday weekend
Minor flooding continues at the Cottonwood River gauge at Soden’s Grove, while the Neosho River came up just short of flooding at Neosho Rapids.
*For the Cottonwood at Emporia, a flood warning is underway until Sunday evening. The river was at 21.34 feet Friday night, just below its apparent crest of 21.35 feet and above flood stage of 20 feet. The river should go below flood stage early Sunday.
The warning for the Neosho at Neosho Rapids has been canceled. The river is at 21.69 feet, just below flood stage of 22 feet and also below its apparent crest of 21.93 feet. It should go below flood stage Saturday morning.

*For the Cottonwood at Emporia, the warning is underway until mid-afternoon Sunday. The river was at 21.2 feet early Friday afternoon, above flood stage of 20 feet. The river is above the latest revised crest projection of 21.1 feet and should go below flood stage early Sunday.
*For the Neosho at Neosho Rapids, the warning goes to Saturday evening. The river is at 21.91 feet, just below flood stage of 22 feet. It should crest at 22.4 feet Friday afternoon and go below flood stage Saturday morning.

Flooding is underway at the Cottonwood River gauge at Soden’s Grove. Flood warnings have been canceled further upstream.
*For the Cottonwood at Emporia, the warning is underway until mid-afternoon Sunday. The river was at 20.82 feet Friday morning, above flood stage of 20 feet. The river is approaching a downwardly-revised crest of 20.9 feet and should go below flood stage early Sunday.
*For the Neosho at Neosho Rapids, the warning goes from 8:30 am Friday to Saturday evening. The river is at 21.97 feet, just below flood stage of 22 feet. It should crest at 22.6 feet Friday afternoon and go below flood stage Saturday morning.
The warnings issued for the Cottonwood at Cottonwood Falls and Plymouth have been canceled.
