Blustery conditions for much of Sunday will now likely extend through the overnight hours towards sunrise Monday.
The National Weather Service has extended a wind advisory for Chase and Greenwood counties to end at 7 am Monday. Wind gusts, which approached 50 mph for much of Sunday, will be as high as 45 mph overnight.
Memorial Day could be occasionally gusty areawide before strong to severe thunderstorms move across the area early Monday evening into the early overnight hours Tuesday. The main concerns will be hail, winds and flooding rainfall, although an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out.
Tuesday could also see severe weather, with hail, wind and heavy rain all possible.

7 am Sunday: Flood warning done for Cottonwood River at Emporia; wind advisories Sunday precede severe weather chances Monday, Tuesday nights
Flood warnings have ended for Lyon County after heavy rainfall last week.
The National Weather Service cleared the warning for the Cottonwood River at Emporia early Sunday. The river crested at 21.39 feet, nearly 1.5 feet above the 20-foot flood stage, early Saturday morning and went below flood stage just before 12 am Sunday.
Several Lyon County roads remain closed:
*Road 150 at D; at E
*Road 155 east of F-5
*Road 160 between Road G and J
*Road G from 160 to 170
*Road H south of South Ave
*Road H north of 160
These roads will likely remain closed through the Memorial Day weekend even if they dry out.
A warm, windy period is ahead for the KVOE listening area. Wind advisories affect Lyon and all surrounding counties from 10 am to 8 pm. Wind gusts could be as high as 40 mph Sunday afternoon as temperatures climb above 90 degrees.
Shower and thunderstorm chances return to the area to close out the Memorial Day weekend. Monday night and Tuesday evening both have severe weather chances, with all severe weather hazards possible both evenings and flooding rainfall again a possibility. More showers and storms are possible Wednesday.

10 pm Saturday: Wind advisories issued for entire listening area Sunday
Sunday is shaping up to be a blustery day across the KVOE listening area.
The National Weather Service has placed the entire listening area under wind advisories from 10 am to 8 pm Sunday. Current forecasts are calling for steady gusts between 25-30 mph throughout the day with some gusts as high as 45 mph possible.
The high winds could lead to unsecured objects being blown around and could make for difficult conditions both for high profile vehicles and boats.
