Emporia City Commissioners have a pair of jam-packed agendas for their upcoming meeting Wednesday.
Commissioners will begin with an action session during which time they may approve a resolution calling for swift action by state and federal leaders to enact more common-sense laws to help reduce the amount of gun violence in the country. The resolution comes just a week after the mass shooting at a school in Uvalde, TX, which claimed the lives of 19 students and two teachers last Tuesday.
Commissioners will also consider a pair of ordinances that could designate the Red Brick Investment district as a tax increment financing district and community improvement district if both are approved. Amendments to flood plain management regulations, a public hearing for the Whittier II Mathropolis project rural housing incentive district, approval of the city’s surplus real-estate property list and ordinances related to city street improvement projects will also see consideration.
Commissioners will then move into a study session where they will discuss a letter from Emporia Main Street, water service relocation and mainline abandonment, the city’s upcoming budget process and an update on purchasing policies. Commissioners will also receive an update from new Communications Manager Christine Johnson.
The meetings will begin at 11 am inside the Municipal Courtroom at White Auditorium.
