The local ballots are set for the 2022 election cycle, and change is coming to the Lyon County Commission.
Democrat Scott Briggs is not seeking another term in office. He has served on the board since 2006 and says 16 years is “too long for anybody to be in office, even if they wanted to be.”
Briggs sees a number of accomplishments during his time in office like the creation of the wind energy plant near Reading, enactment of the countywide sales tax and improved relations between city and county government.
Hoping to replace Briggs are Republican Ken Duft and Democrat Gregg Stair, who beat the filing deadline Wednesday. Stair says he plans to get a range of opinions on different issues that come up.
A mathematician by trade and a one-time US Department of Defense employee, Stair says his experience will help him solve issues that arise.
The Lyon County ballot has also included precinct committee and township clerk positions.
