The KVOE listening area may be getting it’s latest round of severe weather Sunday night.
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Chase and Greenwood counties until 3 am Monday morning. The main concerns are hail and high winds with yet another round of heavy rainfall possible.
The watch comes on top of a series of flood warnings for area river gauges.

*Neosho near Neosho Rapids until Friday evening
*Cottonwood near Plymouth until Thursday afternoon
*Cottonwood at Cottonwood Falls until Thursday morning
*Cottonwood near Florence until Tuesday afternoon
A flood watch remains in place for Lyon and Most surrounding counties until 7 am Monday.
Sunday: WEATHER: Minor flooding underway at area river gauges
Flooding is now underway in the KVOE listening area.
Minor flooding began on the Cottonwood River near Cottonwood Falls and Florence late Sunday afternoon. The Cottonwood at Cottonwood Falls is in a flood warning until Thursday morning.
The river was last observed at 9.5 feet, just above the 9 foot flood stage. The river is expected to crest at 13 feet Monday evening and go back below flood stage by Wednesday afternoon.
The Cottonwood at Florence remains in a flood warning until Tuesday afternoon. The river was last observed 22.06 feet with a projected crest of 24.5 feet early Monday morning before going back below the 22 foot flood stage Tuesday morning.
Additional flood warnings include:
*Cottonwood near Emporia until Friday evening: The river was last observed at 18.84 feet just below the 20 foot flood stage with a projected crest of 25.5 feet.
*Neosho River near Emporia until
*Neosho near Neosho Rapids until Friday evening: The river is at 20.5 feet with a projected crest of 27 feet. Flood stage is 22 feet.
*Cottonwood near Plymouth until Thursday afternoon: The river was last observed at 31.2 feet just below the 32 foot flood stage.
A flood watch is also in affect for Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties from 7 pm Sunday through 7 am Monday. There is a slight severe weather risk late Sunday night into the early morning hours Monday.

10 am Sunday: WEATHER: National Weather Service places multiple area gauges in flood warnings with more rainfall expected through Thursday
With more moderate to heavy rainfall expected over the next several days, the National Weather Service has issued multiple flood warnings for area river gauges.
The list of warnings includes:
*Cottonwood near Emporia until Friday evening:
The river was last observed at 17.1 feet and is projected to go above the 23-foot flood stage by late Sunday. The river is expected to crest to 25.5 feet by Tuesday morning.
*Neosho near Neosho Rapids until Friday evening:
The river was last observed at 18.2 feet with an expected crest of 28.4 feet by Tuesday afternoon. Flood stage is 22 feet.
*Cottonwood near Plymouth until Thursday afternoon:
The river was last observed at 24.8 feet and is expected to rise above the 33-foot flood stage late Sunday. The river is expected to crest at 33.4 feet by Monday evening.
*Cottonwood at Cottonwood Falls until Thursday morning
The river was last observed at 7.7 feet and is expected to go above the 9-foot flood stage late Sunday afternoon. The river is projected to crest at 12.8 feet by early Tuesday.
*Cottonwood near Florence until Tuesday afternoon:
The river was last observed at 19.6 feet and is expected to surpass the 22-foot flood stage by Sunday afternoon. The river is projected to crest at 25.1 feet by Monday morning.
The warnings come following three rounds of flooding in as many weeks across the listening area and after scattered showers dropped anywhere from 1-3 inches in Chase County Saturday. At the KVOE studios, we have had 0.90 inches of rain since Saturday morning.

3:50 am Sunday: WEATHER: Flood warning affects Chase County until 9:45 am Sunday
After better than half an inch of rain at the KVOE studios and heavier totals further west Saturday, part of the KVOE listening area is now in a flood warning through the mid-morning hours Sunday.
The National Weather Service has issued a county-wide flood warning for Chase County until 9:45 am Sunday. The Weather Service says 1-3 inches of rain fell across parts of Chase County and also further west in Marion County, where the Cottonwood River’s headwaters are, and in places like McPherson and Saline counties. More rainfall is approaching from the northwest in the overnight hours.
Rainfall totals from Chase County have not been reported from Saturday’s activity. The KVOE studios had 0.60 inches of rain, while the Emporia Municipal Airport had 0.64 inches.
The current forecast has a chance of showers and storms through mid-morning and then another round developing through the evening and overnight hours. There is a slight severe weather risk for hail and wind along with pockets of heavy rainfall.
Lyon County rivers, notably the Cottonwood at Emporia and Neosho at Neosho Rapids, had just emerged from floodwaters Friday following 2-6 inches of rain last week — our third straight week of at least isolated flooding in Lyon County. All area gauges along the Cottonwood from Emporia west to Florence are rising, while gauges along the Neosho from Neosho Rapids to Americus are elevated but not close to flood stage yet. Several roads and intersections remain closed at this time, including:
