More allocation requests have been taken under consideration by the Lyon County Commission after its latest study meeting Wednesday.
Four agencies submitted their 2023 requests during that time including Emporia Main Street. Director Casey Woods says they are seeking a total allocation of $40,000, unchanged from last year.
Woods says the allocation will be put towards assisting local businesses and startups within the Lyon County community.
Commissioners are also currently considering lending approval to a more than $300,000 allocation to Main Street for an Economic Development Administration grant as Main Street works on a “tech accelerator” to address the area’s shortage in technology-based jobs. Commissioners may approve that allocation during their regular action meeting Thursday morning.
Also submitting a request was the Lyon County Conservation District. District Manager Mallory Burton says they are seeking a $40,000 allocation, a $10,000 increase from last year.
Burton says the increase is a combination of inflation and rising programming costs.
Lyon County Register of Deeds Wendy Weiss has submitted a request of $329,525, a rise of more than $17,200 from last year. The North Lyon County Senior Center has also submitted an allocation request of $7,300 an increase over last year’s request of $6,930.
Commissioners still have a number of requests to overhear in the coming weeks before work begins to finalize the 2023 budget. Commissioners will convene for their weekly action session Thursday at 9 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
