Two rounds of thunderstorms hit the KVOE listening area early Wednesday.
The second round brought notable cloud-to-ground lightning, which apparently led to several power outages in and immediately around Emporia. Around 200 Evergy customers lost power between 6:30-7:30 am, with the vast majority — over 180 — affected in far northeast Emporia and rural areas immediately north and east of the city.
Most outages were restored by 8 am. All outages were restored by 8:45 am.

Several power outages were reported in and around Emporia as storms went over the area between 6:45 and 7:30 am.
Close to 200 Evergy customers were offline as of 7:30 am, with the vast majority from northeast Emporia north to Road 200 and east beyond Camp Alexander.
Outages may be restored before 9 am.
