Road construction is underway northeast of Emporia.
The Lyon County Highway Department is underway with a leveling course on Burlingame Road between Road 230 and Kansas Highway 99. The road is currently closed and will reopen shortly after 5 pm Thursday.
Work resumes Monday, and Burlingame Road will again be closed between 6:30 am and 5 pm Monday through at least Thursday.
Separately, the Kansas Turnpike Authority will start its latest bridge-raising project next week.
Contractors will raise the bridge at mile marker 145.67, roughly two miles southwest of the Admire-Council Grove exit, for a two-month project starting June 16. As part of that process, Road U and Road 300 near the highway will be closed for the duration of the project.
The Turnpike Authority has been raising bridges as part of ongoing work to move towards cashless tolling. The KTA has also been instlling gantries up and down the highway to read license plates as part of that eventual move.
