After a batch of strong to borderline severe thunderstorms early Friday morning, the weather picture looks like it’s settling down and heating up.
Storms moved across parts of the KVOE listening area east and west of Emporia during the overnight hours Friday. So far, there have been no severe weather reports from the overnight activity and just 0.10 inches of rain at the KVOE studios. The Emporia Municipal Airport had 0.03 inches of rain Thursday evening and nothing since midnight.
Flood-related weather alerts have also been canceled, including the flood warning for the Neosho River at Neosho Rapids and the flood watch for Chase and Greenwood counties. This means the KVOE listening area’s fourth round of flooding in as many weeks is over, and Lyon County’s gravel road network saw a lot of barricades pulled Thursday. Just a handful of closures remain, including:
*Road 123 at W
*Road 130 between F-5 and G; at T
*Road 137 at S; at T
*Road 140 at J
*Road 145 at V-7
*Road 147 east of H
*Road 155 between F-5 and G
*Road G south of 130
*Road H north of 145
*Road J between 140 and 150
With things drying out, the main weather concern is now summertime heat. Air temperatures could be in the mid-90s as soon as Sunday with heat index readings at or above 104. The next chance of rain for the area is a slight chance Tuesday night through Wednesday night.
