Expect a busy summer at the David Traylor Zoo — for several reasons.
The zoo had a successful Stroll and Show on Friday night. Now attention turns to ongoing construction as part of the $4.3 million Oasis capital campaign, including work to expand the Zoo Education Center. Director Lisa Keith says that facility needs more space.
The expansion will double the size of the building, adding an indoor classroom and an outdoor classroom in the process. Work on the main parking lot is also coming this summer.
Later this month — June 26, to be precise — the zoo will have its annual open house. Besides refreshments, snacks and activities including a bouncy house, the open house is the only event of the year where residents can go into the off-exhibit areas.
