Summer-time heat and humidity are back in place areawide Tuesday, but only two area counties face heat-related weather alerts.
Osage and Wabaunsee counties have heat advisories from 12-8 pm. Heat index readings could be as high as 105 by late afternoon.
Areawide, temperatures will be in the mid-90s and heat index readings will be at or above 100. On Monday, Emporia had a high of 96 and a peak heat index of 103.
Wednesday will be hot with highs in the low 90s. There is a slight to moderate chance of thunderstorms from the afternoon through evening hours, including a marginal risk of severe weather. All hazards are possible but unlikely.
If you want some meaningful heat relief, the chances aren’t good any time soon. The National Weather Service has area counties in a 90-percent chance of above-normal temperatures in its 6-10 day outlook and a 60 percent chance of above-normal temps in its 8-14 day outlook.
