With several programs bursting at the seams, Flint Hills Technical College is looking at facility upgrades.
On KVOE’s Tech Talk this week, President Caron Daugherty said several programs — including the dental program — are full.
The college is also looking to add more space and features to its welding, industrial engineering and automotive technology programs as well. FHTC received $500,000 from the state to expand its welding offerings in Coffey County.
Daugherty says the college is doing all it can to expand course offerings to the evening hours. The college is also looking at possibly adding staff to meet the demand.
The push to upgrade and expand comes as Daugherty approaches her one-year anniversary as college president after the retirement of Dean Hollenbeck last year. She says it’s been a good year.
Among the notable ventures over the past year is a push into competitive gaming, considered the college’s first foray into athletics from a nontraditional perspective. Daugherty is also working to expand the college’s partnerships with businesses locally and across Kansas.
