Soaring gas prices locally come as LCAT is gearing up for its annual Dump the Pump promotion.
Nationally, Dump the Pump Day is Thursday. Lyon County Area Transportation is offering free in-town rides Thursday and Friday. LCAT says 24-hour notice is needed if you’re booking a bus on demand. Rides are available from 6 am to 6 pm weekdays.
Dump the Pump was started to encourage drivers to use public transportation, saving time and money on gas and also spreading awareness about declining fossil fuels at the same time. It comes with Emporia gas prices topping out at $4.79 a gallon and diesel as high as $5.29 a gallon.
