Fifty years after it was dedicated at Emporia State University, the Special Collections and Archives Department celebrated the May Massee Collection of children’s literature materials.
Libraries and Archives Public Services Supervisor Rebekah Curry tells KVOE News the Massee collection is among the most popular for the university.
Massee had a 40-year career as a children’s editor, starting at a time when publishing positions like hers were rare. Massee published a range of classics like “The Story of Ferdinand” and “Madeline.” The collection features over 1,200 books, 3,200 original illustrations, as well as manuscripts, correspondence, photos and Massee’s custom-built office from her time at Viking Press.
