The report from a fatal crash involving Emporia native and former NASCAR driver Clint Bowyer indicates the victim failed to yield shortly before she was struck.
The report obtained by KVOE News from the Lake Ozark, Missouri, Police Department says 47-year-old Mary Jane Simmons of Camdenton, Missouri, was walking against traffic when she was hit and killed June 5.
Police Chief Gary Launderville tells KVOE News Simmons was on a shoulder and walking towards an offramp connecting US Highway 54 and Missouri Highway 242 between Lakeside and Osage Beach. Bowyer was using the ramp to leave US-54 when he hit Simmons, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Lake Ozark Police report says Bowyer had no sign of impairment and had a blood alcohol content of .000 at the scene. Simmons was reported with a crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine, and the report cites residents of a Missouri RV park where Simmons lived who believed she was under the influence of drugs before the crash.
A toxicology report is pending, but results could take several months to be divulged. There is no indication of any citations or charges against Bowyer.
