Aging infrastructure and durability appear to have been the cause of a significant waterline break that shut down operations at CareArc Monday morning.
The break was initially reported around 5 am with Chief Executive Officer Renee Hively being alerted around 5:30 am. Just before 3 pm, Hively says they isolated the location of the break underneath the CareArc parking lot with repair work underway.
As for the cause, Hively says:
Hively tells KVOE News they were “very fortunate” as the water was isolated to the building’s basement and there was no significant damage to report.
The line involved was CareArc’s fire line, not the main that broke Thursday morning. Water has been shut off to the CareArc building as crews work to repair the line.
According to Hively, CareArc will resume normal operations Tuesday, however, there could be another shutdown day depending on how extensive the repair work may be.
She tells KVOE News administrators have reached out to patients who had appointments Monday to reschedule those for later this week. If you have not been contacted by CareArc and need to reschedule an appointment, call 620-342-4864.
8:00 am Monday: CareArc reporting minor damage from fire line break early Monday
CareArc is reaching out to residents who had appointments set for Monday after a waterline break closed the facility early Monday morning.
Lyon County Emergency Communications says the break was reported shortly after 5 am, and CareArc CEO Renee Hively says she was alerted around 5:30 am.
All told, the damage could be worse. The basement, used for storing medical records, has some water — but those records are on shelves and there is no indication those were damaged.
City Communications Director Christine Johnson says the pipe involved was CareArc’s fire line, not the main that broke Thursday morning. The city has shut down the fire line until it can be repaired. Hively says CareArc avoided any issues with the main break last week.
Residents who had appointments Monday may have those reset for later in the week as opposed to late June or early July. Hively says June is typipcally a slower month for appointments, so affected residents may get in as soon as Tuesday or Wednesday.

6:15 am Monday: CareArc’s Emporia facility closed Monday after water main break
Water main issues have become a concern over the past week in the Emporia city limits, and a new waterline break is affecting one of Emporia’s main health care facilities.
CareArc at 420 West 15th is closed Monday. Chief Executive Officer Renee Hively says there was a water main break next to the building, and Lyon County Emergency Communications says the call came in just after 5 am. Hively says the building is without water service — and water was coming into the building shortly before 6 am.
Patients will be called and appointments will be rescheduled. Additional details are pending.
This is in the same general area as a water main break Thursday that took most of the day to fix.
