Several significant updates to facilities will be a prime focus for the Emporia Recreation Commission in the 2023 fiscal year.
During the ERC’s monthly meeting Monday evening, Rec Director Tom McEvoy presented an outline of planned capital improvement projects for the coming year, many of which had to be shelved during the COVID-19 pandemic. With increased revenues in recent months, McEvoy says there are three major projects on the horizon.
Future updates will include a complete renovation of baseball diamonds at both Delgado and Whittier and new fields and expanded parking at the Debauge Sports Complex. According to McEvoy, the ERC has earmarked $1.3 million for capital improvement expenses in 2023 as part of an overall budget that currently has an estimated general fund of $5.3 million.
The main focus will be the first phase of improvements at Santa Fe Park.
McEvoy says the budget total will likely continue to change in the coming months. McEvoy says he anticipates the total will only increase in the coming months as revenues do not show any signs of slowing down at this time.
The ERC will next convene for its monthly meeting in July.
