Emporia’s West 12th Avenue waterline project is taking the next step forward.
As indicated late last week, crews closed the south part of the Chestnut Street intersection at 12th Tuesday afternoon. This is part of a roughly weeklong process, weather permitting, to connect new pipe laid over the last three months to existing pipe just east of Chestnut.
In conjunction with the work at Chestnut, the city has opened up Lincoln to Grand for eastbound traffic.
Once the work on the south side of the Chestnut Street intersection is done, the city says it will close the full intersection. The exact date for that and the length of that work is to be determined.
Meanwhile, the Lyon County Highway Department has closed Road 190 west of the Graphic Arts intersection to thru traffic because of work further west — specifically, Roads 190 and G. This is also a weeklong process, weather permitting.
Drivers are urged to heed the barricades. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says drivers going past the barricades will be cited with either failure to comply with traffic regulations in a construction zone, disobeying traffic control devices or both. Fines are doubled in construction zones.
