As work continues to improve and expand departments at Flint Hills Technical College, President Dr. Caron Daugherty has submitted the college’s 2023 allocation request to the Lyon County Commission.
Daugherty submitted a request of $72,650 during the commission’s weekly action meeting Thursday morning. The request is up roughly 20 percent from previous years and Daugherty says plans are to “spread the wealth” throughout college departments and purchase needed equipment to help with hands-on learning opportunities for students.
With the majority of requests this year seeing moderate to significant increases, Daugherty says she understands they may not receive the full allocation and if that is the case they have created a priority list for where the greatest needs are within FHTC departments.
Separately, commissioners also received a request of $105,000 from the Emporia Senior Center. The request is also an increase, roughly $40,000, from the previous year.
Commissioners will discuss those requests and others during a budget study session next Wednesday at 9 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
In other business, commissioners approved a change order for a water storage tank replacement project, zoning change requests for a communications tower and utility substation and a better than $67,000 quote for an excavator.
Commissioners also increased the mileage rate to 62.5 cents a mile to reflect changes to the Internal Revenue Service rate.
Commissioners will hold their next regular action meeting next Thursday at 9 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse Commission Chambers.
