With ten days to go before the Fourth of July, Emporia’s fireworks sales and discharge period is about set to begin.
The sales and discharge period gets underway Monday at 10 am according to Emporia Fire Marshall Reason Bradford. During an appearance on KVOE’s Morning Show recently, Bradford stated there are no real changes to the period from years past.
Sales and discharges will be permitted from 10 am to 10 pm between Monday and July 5 with the only exceptions being July 3-4 where the hours will be 10 am to 11 pm. When it comes to the sale of fireworks, Bradford says vendors need to be aware of the differences in regulations for sales within the city limits and out in the county.
Class C fireworks, or so-called commercial fireworks, are permitted to be sold and discharged. Popular fireworks such as bottle rockets, lanterns and metal sparklers are not permitted.
Also, discharging of fireworks on a city street, in a park or within 250 feet of a hospital or medical facility is prohibited.
Emporia’s Fourth of July fireworks show is scheduled to take place on the Emporia State University campus on Sunday, Jul. 3 between 9:45 and 10 pm.
