A 6 run 6th inning cost the Emporia Senior Spartan baseball team Friday afternoon in a 7-4 loss to E3 Freedom at the McPherson Bob Hooper Showcase Tournament.
The Spartans took an early lead scoring 2 runs in the 2nd inning and added single runs in the 3rd and 4th innings to take a 4-1 lead.
Vance Kinsey and Drew Hess were 2 for 3 at the plate. Kinsey scored a run and drove in a run. Hess drove in a run.
In their second game, the Spartan Seniors were outscored by The Curve 11-10. The Seniors scored 8 runs in the 2nd inning to take a 9-1 lead. The Curve would rally to tie the game at 9. In the 6th inning, Cam Geitz scored to give the lead back to Emporia. The Curve in the bottom of the 6th scored two runs after a single, walk, a hit batter, and a double.
Vance Kinsey drove in 4 runs and Kolden Ryberg drove in 2 runs for the Spartans.
The Seniors play again Saturday in McPherson.
The Jr Spartans lost to Chase County 7-4. Chase County took control of the game scoring 4 runs in the 4th inning. Aiden Ewing led the Jr Spartans going 3 for 3 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI.
The Jr Spartans were also defeated by LCBC- a team made up of players from the Southern Lyon County high school and Northern Heights high school teams- 17-3.
For LCBC Brayden Fowler and Jaden Kurzen each drove in 4 runs.
Logan Hammond and Conner Hoelting each drove in 3 runs.
The Jr Spartans are scheduled to host El Dorado on Tuesday.
