Several legal adjustments take effect with the start of the state’s fiscal year Friday. One of them has to do with a change in the driving under the influence law.
Felony DUI convictions are now going onto the sentencing grid and will be a level 6 nonperson felony.
Before Friday, felony DUI convictions were non-grid felonies punishable by up to 12 months in the county jail. The change to an on-grid offense means penalties could vary, depending on criminal history, but the maximum sentence is now 46 months in prison.
