Crosswinds Counseling and Wellness has opened the doors of its newest facility aimed at increasing mental health services to the local Hispanic population.
Wednesday, Crosswinds cut the ribbon on the Centro Hispano de Crosswinds facility at 320 Commercial Street. The new facility was made possible thanks to a two-year $2.3 million grant from the Federal Government.
Crosswinds CEO Amanda Cunningham says historically, mental health services are often stigmatized especially within the Hispanic culture.
She says the new center, in addition to reducing stigma, is helping normalize the conversation on the need for mental health services.
The facility is fully staffed with Spanish-speaking employees including a clinician, case manager, peer support and customer service representatives. The new facility’s opening comes as Crosswinds is still in the midst of relocating to the former Chi Omega building at 1519 Merchant.
