Better than a week after an alleged chase from Emporia to Ottawa, the suspect in the case is still awaiting a decision on formal charges in Lyon County.
The process is in the review stage, and a decision may not be announced until Tuesday or Wednesday.
Meanwhile, 39-year-old Rebecca Estrada of Albuquerque, New Mexico, has been charged with several criminal counts in Franklin County, including aggravated battery on law enforcement, interference with law enforcement, aggravated assault, aggravated vehicular burglary and drug possession after the alleged incident June 25. Estrada is accused of leading a chase through Coffey and Osage counties before stopping in Ottawa. As the alleged chase ended, she’s also accused of hitting a Franklin County deputy with her vehicle, forcing the deputy to go to the hospital briefly, and hitting two Lyon County cruisers before getting into an unlocked semi and triggering a nearly four-hour standoff before she was arrested.
Authorities have also said Estrada was allegedly involved in human smuggling but have not offered any details about that aspect of the case since Estrada was arrested.
Decisions on formal charges in Coffey and Osage counties are also pending as of last word. Estrada’s next appearance in Franklin County is at 1 pm Thursday.
