Emporia State University and the Emporia State football team are mourning the loss of one of their own.
According to a news release from ESU Athletics, redshirt sophomore Brexten Green passed away Saturday at Grand Lake in Oklahoma following a cliff diving accident. Green, a native of Cashion, Oklahoma, was a receiver for the football team, a 2020 Oklahoma state champion as a member of the Cashion High School Wildcats football team and was named the district A-3 player of the year his senior year of high school.
ESU Head Coach Garrin Higgins says, “Brexten was a great teammate who cared so much about this football program. It showed in his competitive spirit, his work ethic and his willingness to be there for his teammates. He will always be a part of our Hornet football family.”
Funeral arrangements are pending. Emporia State counselors are available for members of the football team over the remainder of the holiday weekend via Zoom. Counselors will be available for university students and staff beginning Tuesday.
