Oppressive heat continues across the KVOE listening area.
An excessive heat warning continues for Lyon and most surrounding counties until 9 pm Thursday. Greenwood County continues in a warning unti 8 pm Wednesday. Chase County is in a heat advisory until 8 pm Wednesday.
Air temperatures will be in the upper 90s both Wednesday and Thursday. Heat index readings could be as high as 107 Wednesday and 106 Thursday. Tuesday’s heat index got as high as 104 after a peak heat index of 105 Monday.
Be sure to wear light and loose-fitting clothing, drink lots of water, stay in air conditioning or the shade and take breaks if you work outside. If you can, limit strenuous activity to the morning or evening hours. Also, be sure to check on children, elderly residents and pets to make sure they are OK.

7:10 am Tuesday: Excessive heat warning announced for Lyon, most surrounding counties
Oppressive heat expected through at least Thursday has forced the National Weather Service to upgrade its heat alert for Lyon and most surrounding counties.
Most of the KVOE listening area are now in an excessive heat warning, which lasts until 9 pm Thursday. This upgrades the heat advisory that was in place Monday.
Greenwood County is now in an excessive heat warning until 8 pm Wednesday. Chase County is still in a heat advisory until 8 pm Wednesday.
Heat index readings could be anywhere from 103-110 through the alert period. Heat index readings climbed as high as 105 at the Emporia Municipal Airport on Monday.
