Now that Lyon County’s official fireworks sales and discharge period is over, Emporia Police announced a relatively low number of complaints.
Emporia Police Capt. Ray Mattas says there were 72 fireworks complaints, with more than half of them — 38 — just on the Fourth of July. One citation was issued.
Fireworks were allowed between June 27 and Tuesday.
6:40 am Wednesday: Single complaint ends Lyon County’s annual fireworks sales and discharge period
The fireworks sales and discharge period is over for another year in Lyon County.
The Emergency Communications Department reports one complaint Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, well below the 38 complaints reported Monday night into Tuesday morning.
Final complaint numbers aren’t immediately available, but complaint numbers were low aside from the Fourth of July. The number of citations issued is also pending, although that is a rare step to take by Emporia Police.
