Formal charges are now finalized in Lyon County for the New Mexico woman accused of leading a four-county chase from Emporia to Ottawa in late June.
Assistant County Attorney Ashley McGee says 39-year-old Rebecca Estrada of Albuquerque has been charged with felony flee and elude, speeding, no registration and misdemeanor interference with law enforcement.
A formal first appearance date is pending, in part because of Estrada’s charges elsewhere. Estrada is already accused in Franklin County on charges of aggravated battery on law enforcement, interference with law enforcement, aggravated assault, aggravated vehicular burglary and drug possession. Federal charges are also possible after unspecified allegations of human smuggling.
Estrada is accused of leading a chase through Coffey and Osage counties before stopping in Ottawa. As the alleged chase ended, she’s also accused of hitting a Franklin County deputy with her vehicle, forcing the deputy to go to the hospital briefly, and hitting two Lyon County cruisers before getting into an unlocked semi and triggering a nearly four-hour standoff before she was arrested.
Estrada’s next appearance in Franklin County is at 1 pm Thursday. Decisions on formal charges in Coffey and Osage counties are pending as of last word.
