The Cleveland Guardians scored early and often in a 13-1 rout of the Kansas City Royals Saturday.
Cleveland scored 2 runs in the 1st inning added 4 runs in the 2nd inning and blew the game open with 5 runs in the 4th inning. Royals Starter Jonathan Heasley gave up 6 runs. Jackson Kowar gave up 5 runs. Michael A. Taylor pitched the final 2 innings and gave up 2 runs on 5 hits with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts.
The Royals scored their lone run in the 7th inning, Vinnie Pasquantino scored on a ground out by Nicky Lopez.
The Royals and Guardians play again Sunday afternoon with Zack Greinke making the start. The first pitch is set for 1:10 pm. Coverage on KVOE begins at 12:30 pm.
The Royals will get a starter back for Monday’s doubleheader, as they’re expected to activate Lynch from the 15-day IL and start him in one of the two games. Lynch made one rehab start in Triple-A Omaha after the blister he experienced on his left index finger healed.
Josh Staumont, who has been on the 15-day IL since June 26 with a neck strain, will go to Triple-A Omaha on Sunday to begin a rehab assignment.
