Celebrities in Disguise II brought fun and entertainment to the Emporia Granada Theatre for a good cause Saturday night.
Callie Medrano, also known as “Madame,” won the event. She tells KVOE News she had a blast on stage, but this was also a meaningful cause for her.
Funds will help Beacon for Hope Suicide Prevention. Director Melissa Owen says a big improvement for residents needing help is coming soon — the 988 hotline, replacing an 800 number for information and assistance.
988 will give callers a connection with a trained mental health staffer at a local, regional or — if immediate resources aren’t available — a national center.
Organizer Tagan Trahoon was glad people came to the Granada, both to have a good time and to support the cause.
Granada Theatre Director Rebeca Herrera says awareness and public support is vital for people who may be struggling with mental health.
Participants were separated into pods of three women and three men. The preliminary winners faced off in the title round. “The Judge” Doug Bjerkaas finished second. Fundraising totals are pending.
