Lyon County Election Office staff are hard at work as several important dates are fast approaching.
Lyon County Clerk Tammy Vopat recently joined KVOE’s Morning Show to discuss these dates and to offer some reminders before residents head off to the polls. First and foremost, Vopat reminds residents to get registered ahead of the registration deadline of 5 pm Tuesday.
Those wanting to get registered can do so online by clicking under the election tab under the government drop-down menu at Lyoncounty.org or by going to the Lyon County Clerk’s office between 8 am and 5 pm on weekdays. Those registering in person need to bring a valid Kansas driver’s license or photo id with them.
Thus far, Vopat says they are seeing higher registration traffic this year than last year. She says there are a number of reasons why registration may be on the rise.
The primary election is Aug. 2. Advance voting begins Wednesday by mail ballot and July 18 at the Lyon County Courthouse. According to Vopat, right around 500 mail ballots are set to be mailed out to voters Wednesday.
