With Emporia city and Lyon County government leaders continuing their reviews of upcoming budgets, Flint Hills Technical College is working on several new programs with an eye towards some new projects in existing offerings.
On KVOE’s Tech Talk on Tuesday, President Caron Daugherty said things are on track to open a new early childhood education program, thanks to an agreement with the city.
Flint Hills Technical College also received $500,000 from the state earlier this year for its welding program. Daugherty says those funds will open a new facility in Burlington, and discussions continue this week on this project. E-sports, the college’s first nontraditional foray into college athletics, is moving along with 12 stations to be installed in the Jones Center. The program, also bolstered by city funds, could be ready by spring 2023. Automotive technology, one of the core programs in Emporia, is expanding to LaHarpe soon as well.
Daugherty says the college’s morning offerings are generally full at this time as enrollment continues, but there are openings in the afternoon and evenings. Students can go online to www.fhtc.edu or call 62-343-4600 for information.
