Advanced voting is officially underway in Lyon County ahead of the Aug. 2 primary.
The Lyon County Clerk’s Office began sending out mail ballots Wednesday. County Clerk Tammy Vopat spoke with KVOE Wednesday to offer a few helpful reminders to local voters.
Vopat says some residents may have received more than one mail ballot application. Vopat made it clear that multiple applications does not mean you will receive multiple ballots.
In terms of security, Vopat says validation and tracking help make sure your ballot makes it back to the clerk’s office with no issues.
Once residents receive their ballots through the mail, they need to follow the instructions inside and send it back as soon as possible. All ballots must be postmarked on or before Aug. 2 and need to be returned to the clerk’s office the Friday after the election to be counted.
This is just the start of advanced voting opportunities as in-person advanced voting begins Monday, Jul. 18 inside the clerk’s office from 8 am to 5 pm on weekdays until Aug. 1.
