Bridge work continues on the Kansas Turnpike northeast of Emporia.
Bridge raising has been underway since mid-June about two miles southwest of the Admire-Council Grove exit, with Roads U and 300 nearby closed as that project continues. Work could continue through mid-August.
Later this month, the KTA contractor will add a bridge just south of mile marker 140, or about 12 miles northeast of Emporia. This process will force the closure of Road 280 near the work zone for about two months. Work is set to begin July 25.
The Turnpike Authority has been raising bridges as part of ongoing work to move towards cashless tolling. The KTA has also been installing gantries up and down the highway to read license plates as part of that eventual move.
