Drivers on West Sixth Avenue got a pleasant surprise Thursday.
City Engineer Jim Ubert says the waterline project is just about done.
There are still cones up between Woodland and Wilson, but those will be removed later this month.
Work began in April to replace the waterline in the middle of the street. Ubert says the goal has been to finish this project before a street overlay project begins through the Kansas Department of Transportation affecting West Sixth between Prairie and Neosho. That project could be awarded in early August and start in September.
West 12th between Chestnut and Grand is also just about done. Ubert says everything is “constructed and operational,” but the city is waiting for the Chestnut Street intersection to cure before saying the project is completely finished.
