After ten players were ruled ineligible to play in a four-game series against Toronto due to COVID vaccination protocols, the Kansas City Royals have called up eight players to the main roster.
According to Royals Review, the list of players include 26-year-old infielder/outfielder Nathan Eaton, 27-year-old catcher Freddy Fermin, 22-year-old infielder Maikel Garcia, 26-year-old outfielder Brewer Hicklen, 2019 fourth-round draft pick Michael Massey, 2017 first-round draft pick Nick Pratto, 23-year-old catcher Sebastian Rivero, 22-year-old left-handed pitcher Angel Zerpa. The Royals may add two more players as the series progresses.
The call-ups were necessary after infielders Whit Merrifield and Hunter Dozier; outfielders Andrew Benintendi, Michael A. Taylor and Kyle Isbel; catchers MJ Melendez and Cam Gallagher; starting pitchers Brad Keller and Brady Singer; and reliever Dylan Coleman were placed on the restricted list, for not being vaccinated against COVID-19. Those players will lose pay and service time for four days.
