The United Way of the Flint Hills is looking to increase the level of equity amongst all demographics with the launch of a new mini-grant program.
United Way Executive Director Mickey Edwards announced Friday that applications are now being accepted for the United for Racial Equity program. The grant was established with the goal of strengthening racial equality within the Flint Hills region by supporting enhanced community engagement and civic action.
Edwards says the need for more racial equality has been made apparent following several notable social justice movements and incidents across the nation in recent years. While she says the Flint Hills is a far cry from larger notable cities, racial equality is still a prevalent issue facing our community.
Applications will be accepted through September 1st and are available online at UWFH.org/equity. Edwards says the program has roughly $15,000 available so grant requests will be limited to $2,000 per applicant.
Grants will be awarded by a committee of grantmakers which includes Emporia State University Director of Diversity Student Programs Teresa Taylor-Williams, United Way Board Member Lynn Cunningham and Marilyn Renteria. We have provided a link to the United Way’s website below.
