USD 386 Madison Virgil Superintendent Steve Jowers is looking forward to the future of the district now that he is officially in the driver’s seat.
The USD 386 Board approved Jowers as the new Superintendent during a meeting last week. Jowers served as superintendent-in-waiting since May of last year as he worked to receive his superintendent certificate.
During that time, USD 252 Southern Lyon County Superintendent Mike Argabright oversaw the district on an interim basis. Jowers says he was grateful to have Argabright’s guidance over what was a “difficult year.”
With Jowers now the full-time superintendent he says continuing to grow and improve the district will be his major focus moving forward. Jowers says the district still has access to ESSER II Funds and a portion of those dollars may be put towards increased internship and real-world learning opportunities for their students.
On a related note, Jowers says he is looking forward to continuing the relationships they have with local higher learning institutions that provide their students with opportunities to enroll in concurrent classes.
Staffing-wise, Jowers says the district is in good shape heading into the coming school year with just one vacancy for a music and band teacher.
Jowers’ appointment to superintendent-in-waiting and now superintendent follows the departure of Stu Moeckel to Eudora in 2020. Jowers previously served as principal for Madison Elementary School and also taught at Olpe Elementary.
