Fiscal year 2023 is set for the Emporia Recreation Commission.
Commissioners approved publication of the 2023 budget which includes a general fund of $5.3 million, a $100,000 increase from 2022. According to Rec Director Tom McEvoy, the increase is modest compared to other organizations’ budgets, but it is modest for a reason.
Included in the 2023 budget is $1.3 million which will be dedicated to the first phase of improvements at Santa Fe Park. McEvoy says the park was included in the ERC’s capital improvement plan, presented last month.
Additional capital improvement projects in the near future will include major renovations at Whittier Park and the Debauge Family Sports Complex. McEvoy says those projects will be carried out individually due to the cost of the planned work with some projects bringing an estimated price tag of right around $8.5 million.
Prior to approving the budget for publication, commissioners also approved the conclusion of business and financial transactions for fiscal year 2022.
Commissioners may approve the budget during their next monthly meeting scheduled for Monday, Aug. 22 at 5:30 pm inside the Lee Beran Recreation Center.
