When my sons graduated from college my gift to each of them was a 3-day Golf School.
You might find it interesting that none of them played golf in high school or college while all three played football, wrestling, and baseball.
I’m sure they learned lots of life lessons in those sports with wrestling being most instructive because the results of not being proficient can be painful.
So, why Golf School you ask?
I’ll let the great Arnold Palmer answer that question when he said:
GOLF IS DECEPTIVELY COMPLICATED.
IT SATISFIES THE SOUL AND FRUSTRATES THE INTELLECT.
IT IS AT THE SAME TIME MADDENING AND REWARDING AND
WITHOUT A DOUBT THE GREATEST GAME MANKIND HAS EVER INVENTED.
Thank you, Mr. Palmer. What you said makes perfect sense to those of us who are serious about golf.
Maybe this thought will resonate with non-golfers who are trying to grasp what is being said here.
When copying Arnold’s quote I accidentally typed “test” in place of “game” in the last line making it say “and without a doubt, the greatest TEST mankind has ever invented.”
Changing that single word made Arnold’s thought even more true. Golf isn’t a single test, it tests you over and over and every time you play. Just when you think you have it figured out it rises up and tests you again.
That’s why my kids got golf school as grad gifts. It’s a game for life that will test my kids will over and over again.
